WHO WE ARE!

CUPE (Canada Union of Public Employed)

Local 3155 representing the International Language (I.L.) instructors for the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB). The Board recognizes the Union as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent of all International Languages Instructors (Elementary Schools) employed by the Board in its Extended School Day in the City of Toronto. The Elementary level International Languages Program, operated by the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB), gives children a valuable opportunity to learn another language and culture. When the Ministry of Education established Ontario’s “Heritage Languages” Program in July 1977, the TCDSB already had considerable experience in the field. As early as 1973, the Board, in cooperation with several community organizations, was piloting “Heritage Languages” classes for some 5,700 children in 14 schools.

The International Languages Program includes: Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Filipino, Chinese, and Ukrainian. The IL Program is offered on the Extended Day basis in more than 45 schools.

WHAT WE DO

All CUPE members work under the protection of a contract called a collective agreement. Your local union bargains the terms of the agreement. Elected local union leaders also work with the employer to resolve problems in the workplace.

If you have questions about your rights at work, the best person to talk to is your member of the Local Executive. They will know the specific details of your agreement.
